Family Planning Specialists was established in 1984 by our two co-medical directors and our executive director. Our founders have been a consistent presence in the clinic since we opened. We are unique in that our original leaders continue to oversee all aspects of the clinic and are still directly involved on a daily basis.

Family Planning Specialists’ medical team is led by two board-certified obstetrician-gynecologists, each with over 25 years of experience in the field of women’s health. Both medical directors are members of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Our doctors completed their educations at some of the most prestigious schools in the nation. They have decades of experience in obstetrics and gynecological surgeries, including abortions. In addition, our physicians have lived and worked in the Bay Area for over 25 years and are deeply committed to supporting a woman’s right to choose. They are considered national experts on abortion, and the quality of care provided by our exceptionally skilled staff has made Family Planning Specialists known nationwide as an outstanding facility.

Anesthesia is provided by a board-certified anesthesiologist or a certified registered nurse anesthetist.

In 25 years of providing abortions, Family Planning Specialists has consistently maintained a complication rate of less than one percent—well below the national average for providers.

In April 1996, Family Planning Specialists became the first abortion provider in California to be accredited with the CMA/AAAHC. We received a three-year accreditation, the highest level possible. We have consistently received three-year accreditations ever since.

Family Planning Specialists is a member of the National Abortion Federation (NAF) and conforms to the standards for abortion care determined by physician members of NAF.

Because these policies are the result of extensive nationwide research and medical experience, our patients feel confident that the physicians at Family Planning Specialists are using only the safest and most reliable procedures when performing abortion care.
